Clark

  • Ross
December 2018 Ken Wood advised: Recently there have been items in the newsletter where Mr Ross Clark was mentioned. To put the record straight,  I advise , he was the Officer in Charge, staff department in 1964 and my boss whilst I spent 15 months on the relief staff. He was also my Mother-in-law's first cousin.
Herewith I copy what Scotch College in Melbourne wrote about him:-
Ronald Ross Clark was born at Longreach Qld. on 24th June 1921 and attended Scotch from 1935 -38 . He was a member of the 1937 1st XV and the vice-captain of the 1938 1st XV. He was an Exhibitioner  in Commercial Principals in 1938 and obtained his B.Com at Melbourne University in 1950. He enlisted in the AIF  in 1941, and in in 1943 was at Milne Bay, New Guinea as a cipher operator . Ross was en route  to Tokyo within days of the war's end, and was a cipher operator for the British Army.  He was demobilized 1n 1946 as a Sergeant.

On 14 January 1939 he commenced a 44-year career with The Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney Ltd (CBC) now the NAB. He married Helen Wall at St. Phillips church Sydney, on 3 November 1954.  Ultimately assistant general manager at CBC ,he oversaw the introduction of the bank's first modern  computer system, and retired in  1983.

Des Akers is correct in assuming Ross Clark is the son of Sam Clark (No 'e')  who was Chief Manager in Victoria in 1951.
