Stan was a Life Member of CBC Officers Club. He was known and admired by many of his colleagues. Known as a “great bloke” which says it all.

Stan was married to Pamela (dec’d). He is survived by his three sons.
We thank Stan’s son Geoff for the information we have for his father. He extends an invitation to Club Members to the Service

Ian Holston: I can recall Stan being on the Relieving staff, from memory I think he was a Lay preacher wit h the Anglican Church.
His elder brother John was in the CBC also and resigned from North Sydney branch just before I was transferred there, probably in Dick Thomson’s time and joined the Anglican church as a minister and at one time was the Minister of the Anglican Church in Normanhurst.  Thank you for the notice.

John started in the bank at the age of 15 yrs at Grafton NSW. Some other branches he worked at in NSW were  Belligen, Canowindra, Carcoar, Yass and Coonamble.  He moved to Perth WA in 1973 to open Midland Branch where he stayed until 1986 when he left and opened up a second hand shop, which was very successful. He then opened a Pawn Broking Shop which he built up and it has become the largest of its kind in Perth. It is now run by his wife Marion and family. Marion is doing well she says she misses John terribly but she sounded happy and positive on the phone and she said her family keep her going and she was very busy at work.

Mary GRACIE (9/2008)

  • Kerri Kleidon advises: "I've had a phone call today to say a Mary Gracie has died and she is being buried out at St George, Q on Friday.  Now her name is familiar to me, and apparently she did work in Sydney.  She was 77 years old.

  • John Ness remembers Mary working at Head Office in the 1960s.  She was a very nice person.

Raymond Victor GREENWOOD (28/8/2017)

  • Christine Deacon advised: It was with deep regret that we recently learnt of the passing of Ray whom we first met in the 1970’s at Perth Office where he was in charge of Branch Securities in WA Chief Manager’s Administration.  Ray was dedicated to his job and spoke often of his CBC Bank Service at Glen Innes and Tumut NSW Branches and his involvement in his Apex Club.  Ray shared a house with Bernie Drew, Eric Hubble and Steve McGowan in Charles Street opposite Beatty Park, the home being a watering hole after an impromptu game of cricket  in the park or a Saturday night party.  Ray’s general demeanour earnt him the affectionate nickname of “Scruffy” and to this end he was presented with a name plate S.C. Ruffy. He enjoyed an after work ale at the Alambra Bar  and we have fond memories of us all walking to the Bar, Ray with his heavy leather belt supporting a pipe, in leather holster, on his right hip and his pocket knife/ pipe cleaner again in leather holster on his left hip.  Once inside the Bar, Ray would clean, stoke and smoke the pipe, sharing the smoke with all in attendance (this was when smoking in pubs was allowed).  Ray was well read possessing a good general knowledge and great knowledge of the Bank and the requirements expected of its staff and was quick to help those who were willing to avail themselves of his assistance  so generously offered.  The CBC “Family” has lost a great character with the passing of Raymond Victor Greenwood, Rest in Peace “Scruffy”.  Former colleagues in WA branches include Ian Beveridge, Harry Deacon, Ralph Ditton, Gerry Green, Dudley Hamilton- Jones,  Rob Hendrie, Evan Holland, David Jones,  Phil Lees, Mike Ross-Edwards, Bernie Stewart, Tom Wilson and Irene Farmer (nee Weston)

Leo William GREGSON (15/4/2008)

  • Kevin Meyer advises: Leo's death announcement in the SMH 20/4/08. Funeral at Northern Suburbs Crematorium on Monday at 11.45. I shall be there!!  Leo iwas for many years secretary of CBC Retireds and I think the first Secretary of NAB Retireds. He is also the father of Sandra Ross of 2GB  gardening show.

  • John Beer advises:  Leo lived in Alexandria above the branch and was later Manager Ashfield, then Director Fernleigh Castle Training College.
Manager Sydney University, Senior Auditor, Regional Manager Sydney North Western Suburbs
Retired to Wamberal in 1983.  Passed away 15 April 2008 aged 86
Leo's father JWK Gregson, his son Steven William, and his wife's sister Cheryl Harrison were all CBC officers.  See Family Connections for details.

Euan GOUGH
Maureen Margaret GOUGH
(- 8/2019)

  • Wayne Linnert advised: Details of her service are not available, other than she was a secretary in Head Office.
Maureen’s late husband, Euan was also a member of our Club.

  • 17/8/2019 Ian Holston said Sad to hear of Maureen's passing, Michael Hook put me back in touch with Maureen a couple of years ago and I spent a pleasant few hours with her at her home on the Central Coast.
I had first met Maureen and late Husband Euan at Murwillumbah Branch when I joined the Bank there in 1957.
It may not be well known but they were both thespians in the Bank's Dramatic Society which functioned in the early 1950's.
After Euan retired I spent many pleasant hours with both of them in their lovely home at Avoca Beach. Euan when Regional Manager was always keen to seek an opinion on Marketing initiatives with his branches and the family honoured me by asking me to sing at his Memorial Service in Chatswood. Maureen is fondly remembered by friends they established in the Tweed Valley.

Anthony Thomas Evan (Tony) GRACE ( - 7/12/2023)

  • Frank Maundrell advised: I note the announcement in this morning's SMH of Tony's death on 7/12/2023.  I don't think he was a member of our Club, but he was certainly an avid CBCer!
Tony was Manager at Burwood, NSW, when I was Accountant there from 1975 to 1979.  I always had a great deal of respect and admiration for a very able Manager.  Whilst I am not able to write a detailed bio, a few notes might be of interest.
Outside the Bank, Tony's main interests seemed to revolve around his deep Catholic faith.  Both he and his wife, Lorraine were involved at a senior level in a Catholic sponsored organisation known as "Marriage Encounter".  This involved extensive travel both within Australia and to the USA.
I knew Lorraine.of course, and also most, if not all, their 6 children.  The obituary says there are now 16 Grandchildren and three Great-Grandchildren.  There were none back then!
The obituary says he was aged 88 years.  It is not so long since Lorraine died.  Tony retired from Lakemba, NSW towards the end of 1989.
The funeral will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Strathfield on Thursday. 14/12/2023.

Peter Anthony GUNN (1939 - 11/2020)

  • As advised by John Beer, Peter was an Auditor in the CBC Bank, Victoria.  Son of the late Ira and Lillian Gunn passed away 10th November aged 81 years.
