Graythwaite

2018 January Ian Holston advised: You will recall Sir Thomas Dibbs bequeathing his home Graithwaite at North Sydney to the state to look after return service men and women. In 2009 the then state Labor government sold off the property despite many protests even from some retired CBC Officers. The building was sold to the Shore School for the sum of $35.2 million dollars and to their credit they have refurbished the building to its original state and is now used as an administration building for the school and a museum. It is interesting to note that Sir Thomas Dibbs was on a panel that recommended to the Anglican Church that they build the school in its present location. Hugh Massie’s two sons attended the school and played in the first XI .

Whilst in Sydney last week I overheard a positive conversation that they had experienced superb rehab facilities at Graithwaite Rehab Centre at Ryde Hospital. On further research the centre was built at a cost of $41 million from the proceeds of the above sale and opened by Minister Skinner in 2013. AS she was then the member for North Sydney she was pleased that the Dibb’s family had been honoured in such a way. There are rooms named after Mr. Dibbs and also the Graithwaite  room. All worth Googling.
