1934 Listed in Century of Banking as a branch;
1963 Photo by Ian McAndrew who says:
"The Denman Receiving Office was under control of Muswellbrook and operated one day each week. The Manager took a Junior with him, the Junior was the Teller and left alone in the Agency for the full day, with the Manager calling in occasionally to see if all was OK. - Great learning process. In my day (1963) ED (Mike) Cassidy took me out and I had to learn how to accept deposits, cash cheques & savings bank withdrawals then balance before 3pm to enable us to return to the branch where JT (Terry) Burgess would check the cash."
1977 listed in Annual Report as receiving office of Muswellbrook.
2007 photos by Harold Wood who comments
"According to the tenant of the building this was the Receiving Office from Muswellbrook. But looking at the front door it may have been the original Branch". 2008 Some images of Denman branch/agency taken 20 October by David Jobson, who comments:
"The building is in very good condition and is occupied by a rural agent Luke McTaggart, who was very cooperative. He was quite proud of the building and its history. There is an historical plaque at the front, the doors look original. Inside, the counters and the interior are original as is the ledger desk complete with ink stains of old.
The strongroom door has an excellent history of the branch from its start date in 1919 with signatures and comments over the years right through to closure of its status as a NAB agency off Muswellbrook branch on 30/06/89. I assume that it was a full CBC branch originally and became an agency later on and through the NAB years until closure in 1989." |
